2012 Trend: Pastel Vintage Dresses

If you’re looking for on-trend colours for this Spring/Summer, go for pastels. On the catwalks, icy tones were seen everywhere from London to New York. For inspiration take a look at the top designers. At Louis Vuitton white feather skirts were dip dyed in spearmint green and lemon to create a whimsical, girly look. And other designers experimented with everything from colour-block pastels to luxe sportswear. These are designs to inspire even the least style savvy amongst us. And a simple, wearable way to nail this trend is with vintage dresses.

Vintage dresses are a great way to try out this trend if you want a subtle look, without wearing head-to-toe pastels. You can add depth to your outfit and avoid looking washed out by adding a dose of black or navy. All you need to complete your look is a sporty black or navy jacket to create a modern edge. And you can even nail two Spring/Summer trends in one – pastels and sport luxe! If you’re feeling brave (and want an eye-catching look) mix and match pastel toned pieces in colour-block layers. Don’t be afraid to wear those icy hues from head-to-toe!

For something a bit different, look out for vintage dresses with ombre washes. These were seen in pinks and lilacs at Jonathan Saunders, Prada and Versus to name just a few. Dolce & Gabbana opted for glacier blue, spearmint green was seen at Marc Jacobs and Dior, pale lemon featured at Calvin Klein Collection and Lanvin used romantic damask rose. When you’re searching for your perfect vintage dresses, look out for these shades this season.

But why vintage dresses? Buying vintage is a great way to nail a new season trend and stay individual to your own style. There are so many 50s and 60s pastel toned pieces that you’re unlikely to find anyone else wearing the same thing. If you mix and match these with new pieces from the high street or online, you can create a look that’s completely unique! But when working the Spring/Summer pastels trend remember to stick to pale, icy tones and stay away from sickly sweet candy colours. This is where it’s great to look to the catwalk for inspiration. And if you do opt for vintage dresses, don’t be afraid to customise them to give them a modern twist!
